    Born and raised in Homewood, IL, J Shep graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Music. In January of 2005 he released his first album with the single, “Sacrifice of Praise” receiving airplay on both national and satellite radio. The Urban Notebook album released the summer of 2009 and featured Grammy and Stellar award winning producer, singer, and songwriter PJ Morton on a song entitled “Our Children.” It was this record which laid the foundation for J Shep’s charge in helping young adults find their way (back) on the right track. A third project is underway; an EP titled “Faith and the Promise” by J Shep and Standard which will release summer 2013. Located in the historic Freeman’s Town at 1300 Victor St., Houston, TX 77019, the library is housed in the Edgar M. Gregory School, which served as the first public school for African Americans in Houston.
